Lot 3007 FINE DELUXE SAMUEL HOGGSON FACTORY ENGRAVED HENRY
RIFLE. Cal. 44. S# 12352. This rifle is a very attractive published silver plated Hoggson factory engraved Henry rifle, among the best of its genre. 130 Hoggson engraved Henry rifles survive in data base, and most are clustered in the 11,000-12,000 range being the last Henry's made prior to 1866 Winchester production, few retain this much original silver plate and overall fine condition. All original and authentic, this 5th variation made in 1865 is in serial range of most surviving Hoggson engraved rifles, 11,000-12,000s with all proper characteristics, pointed butt plate with .75" trap door, .65" hole bored in the butt stock to accept an iron cleaning rod, large .125" trigger retaining pin, large 5/8" magazine follower with 5/8" wide finger tab, square back front sight blade, slanted profile to stock comb, high gloss varnished burl walnut stock, large 3.25" all serif address, six land & groove rifling, 900 yard rear sight with slide stop screw, sling swivels on left side.Matching S#s stamped on barrel behind rear sight dovetail, left side of lower receiver tang, top receiver tang channel in butt stock, inside bottom edge of butt plate. Lower tang is also stamped "F" and "26", unknown factory notations for deluxe wood and plating. Matching assembly numbers stamped on rounded portion of barrel under loading sleeve and on rear edge of loading sleeve. This is a beautiful & attractive deluxe engraved & silver finished rifle. CONDITION: Fine to excellent overall, retaining 70-80% original silver on frame & buttplate, barrel is fine smooth plum patina with 20% bright blue in protected areas, well fit stock retaining 90% original high gloss varnish with scattered cosmetic scratches & blemishes, trap door in buttplate slightly bent.
